2014 Buick Regal: A Blend of Luxury and Sport
June 13 2014, Justin Barker
The 2014 Buick Regal is a bold and stylish vehicle that will likely attract quite a few looks as you drive by. Inside, the midsize sedan is luxurious, comfortable and offers a range of equipment that will add to the overall experience of driving the car. Power is good too, as is handling, and in terms of cargo space; it is roomier than you might think.
The sophisticated styling of the Regal makes for quite the intriguing sedan. The vehicle, priced from $31,458 MSRP, has been refreshed for the 2014 model year to include new LED headlights, LED taillights, and a deck-lid spoiler. Buick has created a good-looking midsize luxury sport sedan that will appeal to many buyers, while taking your seat behind the wheel may very well seal the deal.
On the inside, the stylish and luxurious vibe continues, and provides drivers with a comfortable cabin filled with premium materials. The base model comes standard with leather-appointed heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with steering wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, and heated outside mirrors.
A backup camera is also standard, along with OnStar, Bluetooth, satellite radio, and Buick’s IntelliLink infotainment package. The latter features a full-colour touch screen display and hands-free calling, among other features.
Consumers can also opt for one of three types of packages, which combined will include features such as a remote vehicle starter and push-button start, a heated steering wheel, navigation, and HID headlights and Bi-Xenon projector lamps. In addition, the top GS Group will include a rear spoiler, a high-performance front suspension and Brembo brakes, along with 19-inch V-spoke wheels and sport seats, among others.
Another interesting aspect to consider about Buick’s midsize sedan is the performance and driving experience. The 2014 Regal and Regal GS get their power from a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-4 engine with direct injection. Buyers can expect a total output of 259 horsepower, and 295 lb-ft of torque between 3,000 and 4,000 rpm. It’s all mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with “Driver Shift Control” for quick shifting. A 6-speed manual is optional on the Regal GS, and premium fuel is recommended for better performance.
There is also an eAssist version which is powered by a mild-hybrid drivetrain featuring a 2.4-litre inline-4 direct injection engine, and an electric motor that serves to assist the gasoline engine in order to improve fuel economy.
Fuel economy ratings for the eAssist model are stated to be 8.3/5.4 litres per 100 kilometres for city/hwy. With the other trims, the FWD automatic is rated at 10.1/6.6 (city/hwy), and 10.9/7.3 when equipped with AWD.
Another detail worth considering is the spaciousness of the vehicle. The 2014 Regal offers enough room for four adults, and when the rear seats are folded, a surprising amount of space becomes available.
The 2014 Buick Regal blends luxury with sportiness in terms of styling, features and options, and driving performance. It also provides buyers with mild-hybrid drivetrain version that is more fuel efficient, and plenty of space.
